What greater thing of life than love?

In my heart, is my answer.

So, here goes.

I heard a sound and ran around back and discovered a well in my back yard, and my brother Jim, playing with a cap gun, and I looked down and there was a belt holster on me.  I too had a cap gun.  How do you do it?

I noticed even further away, my brother Jerry sitting on a corral fence holding a rope that was tied to a cow.  And my other brother Danny, on the other side of the corral holding a rope tied the the cow.  My dad in the middle on the ground next to the cow.

What were these things?   How did they work?  What did they mean? What was going on?

Those were my first ponderings.

Dale called and we discussed the meeting we had with Julio the day before.  He concurred about my feelings about the meeting.  julio had taken a position yesterday that made me no longer want to provide general consulting services for him.  He has reduced me down to a laboror of which he is quite accustomed to using.  I brought more to the table than a common laborer, and Dale concurred.

I will continue to do sales for him, which requires that I actually go out and inspect the houses and provide a bid and close the sale.  Thats ok actually since I need the job and the pay is good.  but it is not the position originally discussed.  The original position was Marketing. “Make the Phones Ring”. Not sales.  Anyway, he is a technician as described by Michael Gerber in his book, “The E-Myth” and simply does not understand the difference between Marketing and Sales.  He also does not fully believe that I am tryijng to help him far beyond what he thinks he needs.

i saw that he faced potential liabilities that he had not seen. Of course I told him about them, such as the signs on the truck, and the boy that crossed the fence into the work area.

When you put your company sign on your vehicle, the vehicle is now considered for “Business Use”.  Many people put there company name or sign on their personal vehicle but at that point, the vehicle is not insured.  Many entrepreneurs do not know about this and of course you can see the major ramifications that one can endure from not knowing, so yes, of course, these are the kinds of things I want to make sure that my client is protected from.

He also assumed that the “homeowner” is the one that is responsible for the boy crossing the fence and entering the work area and that our company is under no legal threat.  Wrong.

Dale and I talked about the marketing plan for Julio, and I also told Dale that Dale is now in charge of Julio’s Marketing needs.  Since I am not a “Big Time Consultant”.

The client told us that he had a better bid from another contractor for 17 piers for a total of $5250.00

Julo declined to do the project if only 17 peirs were installed due to the fact that he knew the foundation would have problems later and of course, he would be blamed and be the one that has to fix it.  Julio declined the sale and left.

On the way back to the office, I talked to him about why he declined teh sale.  Pride in his work, the value of his work, and maintaining his reputation and image.

But, He still lost the sale.

i talked to Julio some more about it on the way back to the office and told Julio to let me call the client back.  Julio agreed and I called the client back and told him that Julio wanted to do the job, but wouldn’t do the job if it wasn’t done right with 22 peiers instead of 17.  yes it was going to cost a little more, but Julio offered to do the 5 additional piers at only $50 each. I knew that Julio was truly trying to do the right thing, in all areas concerned.

I was very impressed with my saving the sale, but I could not have saved the sale if I didn’t truly have a really good company behind me.  So, hats off to me and Julios company.

We closed the sale and started the job Wednesday and finished it thursday.

I attended and watched the entire process and took notes for marketing purposes and also, general consulting purposes. 

Notes included.

Advertising signs on Trucks:  Trucks are insured for personal use, but witht he signs onthe trucks, the insurance policies would be null and void.
Some contractors were wearing shirts with our logo and advertising but had the old logo with the old company name which the company had to change from pro-lift to pro-select.  Documentation, including a contract agreement, had a different company address and info.  Brochures and documentation needed to be

I agreed and started August 11th.

I met the owner, Julio, at the office at 2203 Webb Lynn Road, in Arlington Tesas and discussed the needs of the company.

Julio said he had been in business as an S Corp since 2005 and business was good till 2 years ago when the Market Crashed.  since then, the phones have hardly been ringing.  I asked him what he wanted from me.  He said that he wanted me to To “Make the Phones Ring” and to provide “General Business Consulting”. I agreed to do the Marketing and General Business Consulting.

We started last Monday, Aughst 11, 2009 at 8:30am, at the office of Pro=Select Foundation Repairs in Arlington, Texas.  I met with Julio, the owner, and we spend the day discussing the buisness.

I assumed General Consulting Duties the first day We concluded our day at the owners request at approx 3pm.

I am looking forward to doing business with Julio.  I know he is a good man and runs a proper business.  I am very glad to assist his company, anyway I can.
